Essay of the week - Do Hard Things
This week, I was grateful enough to have a late-night conversation with Naman Chakraborty, Founder of Selligion.
We talked about lots of things. We had dinner at 12.30 AM, tea at 2.30 AM and a cup of coffee at 5 AM. I absolutely love conversations like this 🙌
I slept at 5.30 AM and woke up at 10.30 AM. Had two cups of coffee and took some notes from our conversation from last night.
Even though we talked about things like How does power work, A religion called AjiVikas, the History of Chanakya, Chandragupta Maurya & Ashoka and Jain Philosophies.
Out of the entire conversation, my biggest takeaway is when he told me these three words - DO HARD THINGS.
Quick Context:
I shared a few things with him about my personal life and how I’m trying to figure out what’s the right way to go ahead.
He shared two things with me that changed my perspective:
A human usually works about 2-3 hours a day. That’s approx 600-1000 hours a year.
All you need is 300 great hours a year to achieve anything you want to achieve.
What you do for the rest of the day doesn’t matter. Put in one great hour a day and that’s all you need.
He also said “we're all born with gifts - our personal blessings - our personal shiny axes.
All blessings are curses as well. When we know we have this gift of an axe and we see it being underutilised - it gives us a strife
Instead of worrying about the use of the axe - we perhaps should make sure that we keep sharpening the axe.
So that when the time is right and the time is opportune - the axe delivers” Mic drop.
Do Ruthless Prioritization and don’t worry too much.
He asked me a few questions like what’s your “F*ck you, money” number and understood my goals a bit.
I told him that I want to get land and build a house with a farm and all.
He said, Do Hard Things and don’t spend too much time thinking about anything that doesn’t relate to it.
